Oriole is Happy to Welcome Back
Tracy Riley
For One Day of Seminars

Saturday, September 27, 2025

Multi-time International Team Member Tracy Riley has been actively involved in the sport of Agility since 2002. She has competed successfully at Regional, National, and International Competitions, earning titles and medals with a variety of dogs.

Tracy’s runs are well known for accuracy, consistency and speed and, as a trainer, her goal is to help her students develop the same skills. She has extensive experience teaching private lessons, classes and seminars locally and nationally. She’s an energetic and enthusiastic instructor used to working with a wide variety of dogs and handlers to help them build the teamwork and skills necessary for success in any agility venue. Tracy uses positive reinforcement, games, and shaping to build winning behaviors in dogs while teaching the handlers the skills needed to be competent, positive and consistent agility partners. Most importantly, she’s committed to keeping it fun for both dogs and handlers.

Oriole Dog Training Club presents

Two Days of Distance Seminars
with Paula Goss!

Saturday, October 11, 2025
&
Sunday, October 12, 2025

Each day will have different courses and different challenges.

Come add to and perfect your skills!

Why is distance handling so important? It allows the handler to get ahead and stay ahead of their dog on the course so they can better handle technical challenges. The handler can take a shorter path which is especially an advantage when the dogs speed is faster than that of the handler. Distance handling also allows you and your dog to participate in agility games like FAST, Gamblers, Jackpot, etc.

Paula Goss has been involved in competitive agility for 25 years competing at the highest levels in AKC, USDAA, NADAC and UKI. She began with her Labrador Retriever and currently competes with Border Collies. She has been ranked in NADAC’s Top 10 for the past 20 years, earned over 50 NATCHs and MEDALs and 22 Platinum Speed Star awards, as well as the NADAC prestigious MOD SQUAD award. Paula teaches seminars across the US and Canada, as well as being a NADAC clinician and instructor. Paula and Kellan, her border collie, are currently trialing in NADAC, AKC and UKI.  Paula works with each team’s strengths and adds step by step instructions on how to improve. She provides the handler with clear, consistent tools for teaching distance and efficient handling.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2025 8 working slots per seminar, limited auditors

8:30 am-12:00 pm • DISTANCE RIGHT FROM THE START!!!
For Puppies and Young Dogs or dogs just starting agility.
Let's start the foundation work you will need to get your dog to work away from you and love driving ahead. We will use short sequences to show where and how to apply pressure. Work will be based on the point you are at in your training. Open to puppies at least nine months old and young dogs just starting agility training. This will be the foundation for advanced layering and distance work. If you have a new puppy or you have holes in your foundation work, you should at least audit this seminar if you cannot get a working spot. Jumps and tunnels only.

1:00 pm-4:30 pm • LET'S LAYER!
For dogs that are competing at the Advanced/Masters level.
Learn how to teach your dog to drive ahead with obstacles in between you, and how to stay on that line away from you. Difficulty of the challenges will be based on the level you are at in your distance training. There is no reason why you have to have your dog run by your side and not work away from you. Challenge yourself and your dog at a higher level.  This seminar will include jumps, tunnels, a contact, and possibly weaves.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2025 8 working slots per seminar, limited auditors

8:30 am-12:00 pm • GO ON!!!
For teams that have some good distance handling skills but want to develop and enhance more advanced and independent skills on the course
Learn how to layer, work discriminations, and where to apply your pressure to keep your dog working away from you. Work drive lines. Expect challenges that will require you to be able to handle your dog at 20-30 feet away from you. Jumps, tunnels, weaves, and contacts.

1:00 pm-4:30 pm • USING DISTANCE TO IMPROVE CONFIDENCE & DRIVE
For Pre-Novice/Novice/Open teams and dogs starting agility training. Dogs should be at least 12 months old.
Learn how to get your dog to drive ahead of you with confidence and speed. Help build their confidence when working with you on course.  Learn where to put the pressure so your dog stays on the line away from you. Challenges will be appropriate for the level you and your dog are at now and work toward improving your abilities and connection. Jumps and tunnels only.

Oriole is Pleased to Welcome Back

Diane Patterson

October 18-19, 2025

2024 Senior Agility World Championship, Jumping World Champion
2023, 2016 AKC Agility World Championship Team Member
2024, 2023, 2020 AKC European Open Team Member
2022 UKI US Open Games Champion
2016 Westminster Master Agility Championship, 16” Champion
2015 UKI US Open Biathlon Champion

After a successful journey as a nationally ranked archer, I hung up my bow in 2003 and picked up the sport of dog agility, as a way to encourage confidence and overcome anxieties in a dog we rescued. My goal was to learn a little, meet some new people, have fun, and perhaps compete. I’ve met those goals and also trained 3 more dogs for agility, earning 20 Championship titles in AKC, USDAA, UKI and NADAC along the way. A student of the sport, I am eager to learn various methodologies and their appropriate application. As an archer, I began studying the mindset of winning and am now gaining a reputation as an effective sports results coach, in part, because of my personal philosophy to “Make it happen.” I focus on building mental strength, confidence and the mindset needed to be successful in sports and life.

Twenty years in agility, and nearly 2 dozen championships in AKC, UKI, USDAA and NADAC has given me valuable insight to agility. I have been blessed to compete nationally and around the world and to work with some of the finest trainers worldwide. Through all the incredible opportunities, I have understood that the one aspect of the sport that is on me, is my mental strength, and of my connection to my canine partner. I am pleased to bring this mindset to my training, and now, to yours.

Saturday October 18, 2025 - 8 working slots per seminar, limited auditors

8:30 am - 12:00 pm - Pro Driving: Hit the Gas or Pump the Brakes?

Courses today require your dog to drive ahead independently for sends and bypassing AND to be able to hit the brakes for directional changes and discriminations. Cues needed to accomplish these skills will be presented, as well as foundational skills to teach them. These are skills that can be taught to dogs as young as 7 months to dogs in adulthood, as it is getting them to read our body language and our verbals. Will work with your dog's age and level. Jumps and tunnels only.

1:00 pm - 4:30PM - Mental Management
Effective handlers understand that a WHOLE picture of agility success includes personal motivation, creating a personal mindset for success, and proper application of skills. Appropriate for dogs 7 months and up. Jumps and tunnels only.

Sunday, October 19, 2025 -8 working slots per seminar, limited auditors

8:30AM - 12:00PM - Foot, Line and Blinker
Footwork, handling lines and effectively using shoulders, arms and hands on course. Agility is a dance between handlers and their dogs. In this session, we’ll work on communicating using our feet, shoulders and eyes in the dance steps of crosses, turns and timing. A focus on using our hands as “blinkers” to indicate direction (and not sky write) will be covered. Suitable for all levels of teams, super for creating communication with your dog.  Appropriate for dogs 7 months and up. Will work with your dog's age and level. Jumps and tunnels only.

1:00PM - 4:30PM - Getting Cues Out Faster

Let’s work on when and where you need to tell you dog how they need to perform the next obstacle. Do they need to bend to the right or left over the jump because the line changes, do they need to collect on that jump, do they need to extend over that jump and drive ahead. Timing is everything and let’s learn how you need to prepare them for what’s coming in addition to what’s right in front of them. Appropriate for dogs 7 months and up. Jumps and tunnels only.

Cost: Oriole members $140 per session. Non-Oriole members $150 per session. Auditing is available: Oriole members $40 per session. Non-Oriole members $45 per session.

Online registration and payment are required. Payment is due in full at the time of registration. No refunds will be given unless there is a waiting list, or you find a replacement for your slot.

HEALTH SEMINARS/CLINICS

Oriole is pleased to host
LEE CARR DVM, VMST, CSCC, CMT
For Two Sessions of
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
for PERFORMANCE DOGS SEMINARS
Saturday, November 8, 2025

Dr. Lee Carr graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. She has practiced clinical veterinary medicine for 41 years. Dr. Carr has been a veterinary chiropractor since 2011. She earned her CSCC, Canine Strength and Conditioning Certificate in 2024. Dr. Carr recently added Massage certification to her list of skills. “I love teaching dogs and their humans' new skills.”

Training in only one dog sport leads to fit muscles only required for that activity. For a fully balanced dog, you must train the body as a whole. Canine conditioning offers benefits including physical improvements like increased strength, balance, and endurance; injury prevention by strengthening muscles and supporting joints; mental stimulation through engaging exercises; behavioral benefits such as increased confidence and reduced boredom; and a stronger bond between dog and owner.

This seminar will present the foundations of a general fitness program. The emphasis will be placed on good form. The program presented will allow teams to progress on their own.

Dogs need to be at least one year of age. All dogs must be injury free for a minimum of four months. Targeting skills are helpful but not required. Dogs must be able to work in close proximity to other dogs.
